Art…

I have a passion for painting and mixed media. I love the process of building up a piece in many layers with a variety of materials including acrylics, inks and charcoal and using various methods to make marks, scrape, carve and collage all adding and taking away to both reveal and cover the history of the piece as it takes its final form. This, for me, is where art and ceramics cross over and these methods are transferable between the two disciplines.

When out walking whether it be in the countryside, along the coast or in a city I am always drawn to the patterns and shapes around me and the contrast between things, maybe a delicate grass against the backdrop of an industrial building or an expanse of water cutting through a meadow. Henri Matisse said “I don’t paint things. I only paint the difference between things.”and that makes complete sense to me.
